Body off engine start

Continuing saga. I am attempting to start the engine with the body off. I am using the main harness and ignition harness. I labeled all the connections during disassembly, and everything (I think)is connected as the same as if the body were on (starter, alternator, voltage regulator, ballast resistor, etc). But I when I turn the ignition switch to start, I get nothing from the starter. I am thinking that I've missed a ground wire some where. I have a wire (black with white stripe) that I had labeled "cluster ground", and have connected it to ground. What else am I missing?

What year? Do you have the ground cable attached from the battery (-) post to the starter bolt? The cluster ground is black/white on a '63, but it's plain black on '64-'67. Are the red main power feed wires connected at the horn relay screw terminals (if not, you'll have no power to the ignition switch, thus none to the starter solenoid)?

I bought a small box at Radio Shack a push button and a switch and made up a unit that is easy to hook up for the body off start. I labeled all the wires for easy hookup. I'm not sure if I had a diagram to work from.

HOOK A + BATTERY CABLE TO THE STARTER AND - BATTERY CABLE TO A GOOD GROUND. RUN A WIRE FROM THE COIL TO THE + CONNECTION WITH A OFF/ON SWITCH IN THE LINE SO YOU CAN TURN THE ENGINE OFF. USE A REMOTE START SWITCH WITH PUSH BUTTON BETWEEN STARTER SOLENOID AND + CONNECTION. TURN SWITCH ON AND PUSH REMOTE BUTTON UNTIL ENGINE STARTS. TURN SWITCH OFF TO STOP. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOME MEANS OF CHECKING OIL PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE. I HAVE USED THIS METHOD ON A 69, 71, 64 AND 75 AND HAS WORKED WELL FOR ME. A BATTERY PACK STARTER WOULD ALSO WORK

It is a 63. Battery is grounded to a bell housing bolt as it was when I removed the engine. I will move it to the starter to see if that makes a difference. I have the radiator mount in place and the regulator and horn relay are attached and wired.

Thanks, but my purpose in using the harness is to trouble shoot as much as I can, including the harness, before I reset the body.
