    CX ( -or- CY ) coded THM400 for 1969

Recently, I posted a topic here about the SHP THM400 transmissions used in the
    1969 model year on high horse 396's & 427's. Mainly the L/78, L/72, L/88,
etc. cars. This was a fairly spirited thread as I recall. As my L/78 Camaro
originally came with a CX THM400, I have been trying very hard to find another
one. Over the weekend, my 6 year search for one of these CX coded
transmissions ended. I found one ! Intact !!

This is a close-up of the ID tag on the transmission. I recall some members
here were questioning the existence of a CX coded THM400. It was suggested
that a CY coded THM400 was proper.

Now that I have one, the new question is this: Where can I get this THM400
rebuilt (properly) by a shop that knows exactly what it is and more importantly
how to do it justice. I doubt I will ever find another one.

    Any recommendations?

As always, thanks for all the input.

    Steve

Steve does the turbo have to be rebuilt? I am still using the original turbo 400 in my original owner 70 Corvette. Only thing I have done to it, no shift kits, changed the fluid and filter multiple times, replaced the front seal, replaced the rear driveshaft seal, and the seal for the shift rod coming out the side. Also replaced a seal on the speedometer shaft. Have no leaks. Although not factory original replacement I bought a replacement pan from GM and am very happy with it because it is heavier/thicker than the original pan and seals very good. You might only have to put new external seals on this turbo and change the fluid and filter. Turbo 400's are very durable and long lasting automatics.

      Jim,

The CX coded THM400's are quite rare. I don't even want to think about
installing this transmission after it has been sitting for 30+ years.

I would rather have it gone through just to be safe, you know? But, my original problem still stands. I only want to send it to a shop that fully
understands exactly what a CX THM400 is. No Bubba stuff here!

      Any suggestions?

        Question for Joe Lucia:

Joe, this CX THM400 originally came with the 6-point converter. It is long
gone and I need one. If I remember correctly, I recall you mentioning that
this converter is still available from GM. Is that correct? If so, are there
more than one converter of that type available? I just want to get the correct
        one.
