    Re: 69 distributor

All the tach drive distributors are very similar. The band that shows the application and date should be similar to other engine components, but not necessarily dated the same.

With respect to date, the distributor was installed at the engine build , so the distributor cannot be built after the assembly date of the engine.

Weren't the TI distributors installed in some of the BB engines at St. Louis if the owner ordered the K66?

Yes, until some time during 1969 MY. The 1969 engine codes which begin with M for large motors, and G for small motors, are for engines shipped from the engine assembly plant with K66 distributors. Earlier than that if K66 was an option the TI distributor was installed at St. Louis and the original points type distributor was returned to the engine assembly plant. Consider what THAT does to our date code rules of thumb. Sometimes I think it is a good thing that we only see a small percentage of the total Corvette production on the show field.
BTW: This information is in the 1968-69 TIM&JG.

            Re: 69 distributor

'64-'65 K66 engines had the distributor installed at Flint Engine and had unique suffix codes for T.I., but in '66-'67 there were no unique codes, and the distributors were swapped-out and replaced at St. Louis when K66 was specified.

Darn, John. So they went back and forth on this. Just couldn't make up their minds -- or the bean counters kept changing the game. Settled it for good in 1972 -- no more K66. End of game.
