68 SB Carb and VIN Post Color

I have two questions for an early 12/67 1968 Conv. First the correct quadrajet for this application is listed as 7028208, however I believe the carb in this car is WRONG, I can't be sure because I have looked at every posible location on this Rochester Quadrajet for any numbers and there are NONE. Were replacements un-stamped?

Question two is regarding the windshield post where the VIN plate is located. I have looked at several color combination and they all appear to have this area on both sides paint a flat black, however after removing the cracked windshield I found the VIN plate to have traces of the interior Bright Blue paint. Now the more I look both posts are painted in the interion color of Bright Blue. Were these painted the interion color and then some portion paint a flat of semi-flat black? If so does anyone know how the process was done. Naturally this would have been done during the painting process and before the windshield was installed.

early Q jets had the carb # on a small aluminum round disk embedded it the side of the carb and these fell out or were removed on most i ever worked on. i am not sure when GM went to the stamped number on the drivers side that is stamped above the secondary throttle shaft

My 68 built on May 10 has the number STAMPED on the carburetor but I don't know when they started the stamping in lieu of the disk.

Thanks Clem and Kurt, Did anyone have any input as to the color found on the windshield pillar and specifically the VIN plate?

C3s, and I suspect C2s, were painted body color, then the black out operation was performed. On C3s that black out extended to the windshield wiper cavity and up the windshield posts -- after VIN plate install -- it also included the black out on the tops of the doors (in later 1968 and newer) and at the rear vent openings. I would expect one to find the original color under the black-out on the windshield posts.
I recall a windshield install tech session on the lawn at Cypress Gardens some years ago. This nice black C2 revealed its true color when the old sealant was scraped out of the windshield opening. Only a few of us standing around exchanged knowing glances as the demonstrator quickly covered the offending original color with the primer for the sealant. Sadly the owner hadn’t a clue, or he was a good actor.

Take a look at my 72 this weekend. (Like you won't be...)
It has a nice stripe of Sunflower Yellow near the top of the front windshield posts.

What, they missed a spot. I'm horrified.

You should have seen John Ballard at Seven Springs in 2003 trying to figure out what it was.
