Could someone tell me if the Air Cleaner Cover should be chrome for a 1972 (LS5)? Thanks Wes

Wes, as to your question,yes the air cleaner lid should be chrome on a '72 LS-5. An excellent reference book which I reccomend is the Vette Vues Fact Book by M>F>Dobbins for 68-72.Also there is no displacment decal on the lid FYI.

Air Cleaner in 72 was the closed type, dual snorkel type with chrome lid. No labels on top. Only 72 LT1 still used the open type air cleaner. Roberto, NCRS #30019, RMC

Also, as far as I know, this air cleaner cover was never available from GM as a seperate part, but only as a component of SERVICE air cleaner ASSEMBLY GM #6485887. This part has been discontinued for years. The cover is, however, available seperately in reproduction, but it costs over $100.
