    Intake Manifold Pins

Can anyone let me know where I can obtain the steel pins that fasten the heat shield to the underside of the intake manifold for a 1968 Corvette 327 engine?
I had to remove it in order to take out a significant carbon buildup.

This question has been asked before. I believe the recommended repair is to tap and use a screw to hold the heat shield in place.

      Al,

Stick with the screws for the assembly of the heat shield. It's not worth the
pain and $$ you'll suffer if one of those little studs comes loose and gets
into the rotating assembly. I was rustling over this very issue when I
recently restored an L/71. Glad I went with the screws. You will be too.

In my opinion, the best thing is to tap the holes for machine screws and install same with Lock-Tite high temperature thread locking compound. However, if you wish to use the studs, you can obtain them under GM #10229247. NEVER reuse old studs unless you install them with thread locking compound. Even then, I would recommend using new studs rather than used ones.

I believe that when you go to buy this part number from Chevrolet, that there's a big minimum buy. Believe that they come in packages of 5 and that the min buy is 10 packages. I looked up this p/n some time ago. Not sure I'm remembering correctly.

Al: go to EBAY and search "intake manifold heat shield rivets".
DelrayDoug sells them in batches of 10 for about $5.
I swab a little JB Weld on the spiral shanks when installing, just for peace of mind.

Unless the dealer you get them from actually stocks this item, they will want you to purchase the package quanitiy of 10 studs. That's enough for 2-1/2 manifolds.

The 10229247 "Pins" come ten in a bag, and you can order just one bag; the O.D. of the (very sharp) splines is slightly larger than the originals, and they work fine. I've used them on several intakes with no concerns.
