    C2 67 Coupe.

I am in the process of installing new carpeting over new correct "jute padded" floor underlayment. I am using ACC carpeting which has a fairly stiff plastic material on the back and it is heat/preformed to the body contours.

This stuff just doesn't want to conform or fit correctly. I've tried the heatgun approach as well as hot sun and it still looks bad.

Has anyone had a similiar problem with this carpeting? I replaced this same carpet about 20 years ago with Al Knoch carpet and it fit great. It was much easier to conform. I replaced it due to aging and discoloring over 20 years. Is the Al Knoch carpet now also stiff or has he a different texture than ACC?

    Steve
I had the same problem's with the ACC carpet set I put in my 69 roadster.I was not happy with the fit or the qaulity of the carpet. I will not use their carpet if I ever do the job again. It turned out ok in the end, but i'm really not satisfied. I live in south Florida and put mine in the sun and it still did not get pliable enough to work with,I used a heat gun and hair dryer as well.I will try Al Knoch if I ever do anoter one.Maybe i'm more particular than some folk's but after all that work I really want the job to look nice.Good luck.Tom Stanton

      Steve,

ACC has lost their grip on the carpet market recently. Their carpets do not fit and apparently they care nothing about the Corvette market.

It's wasn't that way when Jack Holland owned the company. He was a great guy and loved Corvettes.

Really there are no suppliers presently that do a great job supplying carpet to the Corvette market. Not at least across the board for every year.

This opinion only applies to molded carpet as Al Knock still supplies great carpet for 53 thru 64 models.

Steve, I in the past ordered the carpet from ACC, but sent it back for the same reasons you have experienced. I then ordered from Al Knock, and the carpet sets were like night and day. Get the Al Knock if you don't want the headaches. There is to much plastic on the back of the ACC carpet to get it to fit right.

          Guys,,

-------Think about Mid-America for carpet as well. They now have in hose carpet manufacturing and the set I saw installed looked very, very good. Hope this helps............Bill S
