Re: 59 window felts
John,
It is a terrible job to put the staples is (actually to drill the needed holes since once you start drilling the SS tense to harden due to the heat of the drill). You could cheat and glue/kit them in and the glue some backs of the staples on the felt but I don't believe you would get away with it ;-0
This is one of the jobs hy on my terrible job list:
1) remove and attach the left wiper transmission
2) drill the stample holes to attach the window felts
3) disassemble anything behind the dash (especially because I'm to lazy to remove the chair runners
4) remove and fit the lower radiator hose (without taking the lower fan-shroud off)
5) remove and attach the waterpump

Re: 59 window felts
Funny but I never found this job to be that difficult on my 60. after lining up the original holes, I clamped the new felts to the reveal mldgs, and then drilled through the old holes using my drill press and high quality drill bits. Never cared for cheap drill bits, buy the best and you will find all your boring chores go much easier! Maybe that was the secret to my easy sucess! I don't recall if I used "C" clamps or small vise grips to hold the felts in place. Either way will work just fine. Use only as much pressure on the clamps as necessary to hold in place or you will mar the surface of the felts. You could probably use small pieces of wood or plastic between the felts and the clamps to protect the felts.

Re: 59 window felts
Some Hints....
Crush the felts in a vise, this will prevent a tight fit. Crush the curve section to prevent "bulging".
Postion the felts into the door post front run, mark this location on the molding.
Mark the staple hole positions, using a right angle pick inserted thru the felt.
Apply a thin coat of two part epoxy and hold into position. Clamp the inner garnish at the ends, this will prevent the window glass frame from tearing into the felt during roll up.
Insert the staples for looks/judging.
Note the outer reveal molding can be chrome flashed after polish for a great looking job.
I'm sure the General would have used an epoxy if it were around in '59.- Top
