Windshield wiper motor, gauge cluster resto.?

65 convertible: Where have some of you sent your wiper motor assy. and gauge clusters for resto. How have some of you cleaned up the oxidation and rebuild of your wiper motors? Would I be better off to send it off for replating? If the rebuilder is simply going to paint it then maybe I'll do it myself. What type/brand of paint are they using? I did my 57 8 years ago but it was in somewhat better shape. I think I saw an article somewhere in the restorer? Adjusting the park etc. Thanks Dick Gutman

    Dick...

I used Corvette specialies of Md. with very good results...Plating beats painting very time for the long run and most restoration will do it both ways based on what you can pay.

      Dick,

For your gauges or cluster, you might try D and M Restoration. They advertise in Driveline, here's a link:

A couple of years ago, I sent them just the Speedometer and Tach with housing for my 67 convertible. They came back looking brand new and the turnaround was fairly quick. They also sold me overlays for the four small guages for my do it yourself cluster resto.

They also advertise for the wiper motors, although I don't have any experience with them in that area. Nice guys over the phone.

Dick, don't use Corvette Specialties of Maryland. They are very arrogant and difficult to deal with. You will be at their mercy. They rebuilt my 57 tach. Three months and way over estimate. The quality was not what I expected.

Thanks for the help. When I was at Carlisle I spent all my time looking at parts. I did not make it all the way through the show. I did see Corvette Clocks by Roger and grabbed his brochure but did not speak to them since they were swamped. Dick Gutman

              Dick,
For your gauge cluster, I can offer a positive recommendation for Roger Scott (not to be confused with Clocks by Roger), at Corvette Instrument Service in FL.

The work that he did for me was excellent and turn around time was quick. You can reach him at (561) 627-9345.

              Regards,
              Gene

                Mike...

Do you know if Corvette specialties changed owners or lost some of there talent?

Dennis, I do not know if there has been any changes. I can only go by my first, only and last experience with them.

D&M Restoration just did my speedometer and tach. Excellent work, fast turnaround and final price very close to their estimate.
