    Rusted Frame Repairs

I posted a message a while back asking for input regarding potential frame repairs to a 1968 coupe. I now own the car, and will be picking it -up next weekend.

My question now, is if there is any article or book that covers restoration of damged or rusted frames other than Mr. Tripoli's "Chassis Restoration Guide"?

I bought this book and enjoyed it very much, but it fell a little short in this department.

If not, I will do my best to document my project for possible future use.

    Thanks in advance.

    Chuck----

There are no books that I am aware of that cover Corvette frame repairs in any significant detail. For advice and possible reference sources I would recommend contacting Caledonia Classic Cars of Belding, MI. This type of repair is their specialty, so if they can't help you, I wouldn't know who could. My Corvettes having lived all of their lives in California, I've never had personal need to become familiar with frame repair procedures. I'm glad about that, too.

Chuck, there is a book availible from Motorbooks International titled,'CHEVROLET CORVETTE Restoration Guide', written by Lindsay Porter. There is an entire section dealing with rust repair to a '69 frame. In fact the book follows along with this '69 through the resto/rebuild process, start to finish. Might be worth a read.Good luck.

Check out http://www.y-car.com This is an old web site that has not been updated in a while, but they were doing a restoration on a 68 Vette. They got to the point of doing major frame repair with the last issue (Jan 99).

Check out Project 68 at that web site, and be sure to look at previous issues concerning the 68 project.

Perhaps this will give you some insight into what is involved. Good luck.

            Re: Chuck & Leroy

Leroy - I would be pleased to entertain a story for The Corvette Restorer regarding your experiences repairing your frame and

Chuck If you decide to "do it yourself" take photos and write it up for the magazine. There is lots of interest in and need for this information.

Try to get a recent Corvette Fever issue, Dec 99. There is an article about a C2/C3 chassis resto with a lot of photos, just to have an idea on rusted chasis repairing, very interesting. Good luck, Roberto, NCRS #30019, RMC

Thanks to all for the great input.

Terry: I will gladly share my process with all. Any way that I can reciprocate, I'll be glad to do.

Leroy: Brace yourself for an e-hit, it sounds like you could provide me with a great jump start to correcting the frame issue.

Again thanks for sharing your ideas and time.
