    Weird 66-spare tire

Today, when I removed the spare tire tub on a low mileage c2 66 convertible I found this weird tire. Manufacturer: GOODYEAR --Size: P195/80D15 – Side markings “Polyspare” “max speed 50mph” “Temporary use only” “TPC spec 401. The tire was mounted on a stock 66 rim. I’ll look closer at the rim on Monday but it appears the rim and tire were never used and the tire is not balanced. Has anyone else ever seen one of these weird spares?

That temporary spare tire (from the late 70's, as Geoffrey said) was originally mounted on its own special "skinny" 15" x 5" "YA" rim; someone demounted it and mounted it on the '66 rim.

        John

        Thanks

I have no idea how or why this thing ended up as a spare, except that someone wanted to save the price of a real tire.
