    '67 Headlight bulb capsules....

I've been asking around about this and the consensus is that the headlight "capsules" which house the headlights were originally bright zinc or cad plated from the factory, not painted black. I've looked in every manual I have and looked at many vendor catalogs that I have and on line. It appears to me that the black bulb may be a "one size fits all" replacement, as I didn't see any bulbs available that were not painted black. They were listed as '58-'82.

So what is factory correct for '67....the bright zinc finish or dip painted black? See below. Thanks, PT

PT, Nearly every bucket I've ever removed a T-3 from was zinc. That's from over 20 years of junkyard T-3 hunting.

I believe they were cad plated... however the high beam capsule was a "gold" tinge while the low beams are more silver grey. Probably done this way for easy ID during assembly as they are different so you can't put the incorrect bulb in that location.

Thanks guys for the verification. I think I'll give LICS a call Monday morning and get a fresh set. Just about all of their parts are correct. I really don't know what the heck I have here, since I'm starting to put the headlights back together and don't have the time to fool around.

Those capsules are everywhere on vintage GM junk in the yards. Check em out if you have any near you.... cheaper than LIC.

I second that. While T3 junk yarding I have seen these by the dozen. I was able to pick and choose only those that looked perfect.

I can't say for sure, because I've never looked for them, but a 62 owner once told me that they were (perhaps) still available through GM for some large truck applications. Joe Lucia may know whether this is true or not...
