    c3-71 spark plug wire question

Wnated to replace the spark plug wires on my 71 lt1. Note that the car has headers but the question does not pertain to that. I bought acdelco 508n (which was the part number for my year).

I took the wires out of my box, and laid them side to side expecting to see basically 2 of each length as to my untrained eye, the distributer looks in the center. In other words, I was expecting that the drivers side and passenger side would have basically equidistant wires, thus should have 4 lengths times 2.

Instead, I opened box and found 3 of same long length, 1 of a bit shorter length, then another two equal, then 1 not etc.

Am i just mistaken in my assumption or do I have a box that was packed incorrectly at the Mexico factory? I don't want to go back to the parts guy if I am wrong

    thanks

    Thats the way they come.
Using the longest wires first, start at the front of the motor and work your way back. If there is one longer of two to choose from for a cylinder, use the longer one on the drivers side as the distributor is offset to the right.
Longest one is cyl #1, and the shortest is cyl #8.

Re: c3-71 spark plug wire question

The last time I did this the wire set had one short "long" wire and one short "short" wire. The short long wire goes on #4 and the short short wire goes on #8. The wires for #4 and #8 are on the passenger side of the distributor if the wires are indexed correctly, making these wires shorter. If you understood this the first time through, you drink too much (or just enough).
