    LED Turn Signal Bulbs

I am considering to replace my 1157 front turn signal bulbs with aftermarket LED bulbs as I like to drive during the day with my parking lights on for better visiblity. Would appreciate any negative or positive comments about making this change.
    Thanks, Rick

What is your objective with switching to LED bulbs?

I am looking for a brighter look from the front as I believe it will increase visibility. I guess similar to todays car with daytime running lights.

To date, the only 1157 replacement LED bulbs I have found are red, not suitable for the front. Behind the red lense in the tail light they are dimmer than normal 1157. If I could find white LED bulbs I would try them but no luck yet.

Verle, check out the shops that the ricers frequent. I seem to remember seeing white LED's is a ricer.

            Watch your turn signals...

If car is equipped with factory original flasher you might see a dramatic difference in blink rate (even no blink) when you go about swapping your original 1157 lamps for SS clones. Ye olde flasher cans switched current based on flasher internal heating that was the product of a precise branch current flow. SS lamps typically have FAR different current vs. illumination characteristics compared to tungston filaments....

Modern flasher can are typically insensitive to lamp filament resistance and branch circuit current. Some simply count the time current flows, open the circuit for a second time interval and cycle that way. These wouldn't give a hoot about what kind of bulb you're using...

You could try 2357 bulbs, as they are brighter than the 1157. I replaced my tail/stop lights a few years ago with the 2357s. A little extra light.

The life span of the bulbs are reported to be a bit shorter than the 1157.
Since the 1157s were over 30 years old when I replaced them, the 2357's may still out live me.

                Dick,

The red LED 1157 replacements that I have found look white but burn red.

I have no idea where the ricers shop and they probably wouldn't let me through the door. :-) Thanks for the idea, I'll ask around.

Your old JC Whitney catalog has halogen 1157's. Bought a pair for the 69. They're about 2x brighter than the 1157's. Chuck

Verle, I was at the local Autozone and saw a set of LED replacements for 1157's.
Also Iowa 80 Truckstop, on their web, site has these bulbs

Bulbs are about $40 each. What a deal
