I need a pulley for my PS pump but I noticed that the pulley for the L79 is significantly more expensive than the base engine PS pulley. Does anyone have any suggestions on another pulley besides the original one (for an L79) that will bolt in place of the original?

Re: PS pump pulley
James-----
Basically, there were only 2 different power steering pump pullies used for most 1963-74 Corvettes (there were actually a few others, but these had very limited application). Most 1967 L-79 used a "drop down" style, cast iron pulley of GM #3878245. Many other small blocks used a stamped steel, "pancake" style pulley of GM #3770509. The pullies are both GM-discontinued but available in reproduction.
The above-referenced pullies are NOT interchangeable. They are specific to the particular pulley system used on a specific engine. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I should have said that there were, basically, only 2 different power steering pump pullies USED FOR 1963-74 SMALL BLOCK APPLICATIONS. A different pulley was used for big block applications, with only this one pulley used for ALL 1965-74 big block with power steering applications. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: PS pump pulley
Yup, the L79 P/S pulley is a bit more expensive. Probably because it's a cast iron piece vs the stamped steel one for other applications. Aside from the cost, it IS the correct pulley for your application. If you try to come up with a different solution, you'll end up spending more money in additional pulleys to get things lined up.- Top
