    Build sheet for a 1972

I have a 1972 convertible that I am trying to figure out what is original, what is not, and what the was originally. It is a 72 convertible. It was originally oragne that I can seee, it is now black. I can see it is a convertible. The car is in solid condition, most all parts seem to be thwere. The car was garaged for 15 - 20 years. Interior looks so good it may have been replaced. Here the list so far:

    1. It has a 1975 corvette engine in it.
    2. It has a tilt steering with the wrong wheel
    3. It has a automatic transmission.
    4. It has replacement seat belts.

I made a hand written copy of the build sheet, I could read most of the info, I do not know how to post the picture of it. Hear is some of the info.

    1. Date recieved 71/12/03 seems to match trim code of E10. Exp date 71/12/16
    2. Order number 1fm583, zone 31, dealer 473
    3. 19467 corvette convert, paint 2v987aa1 97-97 Ontario or
    4. equipment codes, CKW, LR., T., B, BB,
    5. Option No. 2V203AA, 2VGVAA, 2V2W4AA, (2VC05AA, convertble top) (2VFR2HS,Front Springs), (2V632EA,Rear springs) (2VLO8AA,Engine emission cert) (2VPT1AA,F70 x 15 tires) (2VU69AC,am/fm push button radio) (2V2KBAP,tire pressure sticker) 2V400BP,(black vynyl) (OGSS OR CUST E9?? CANT READ WELL) (ALSO HAND WRITTEN IS 2VAV3AA SEAT & SHOULDER /3 POINT. AND RN 3637)
    6. Type standard engine, rear axel 3,36 ratio, base transmission, F HUB, R HUB

Base Engine std. four speed. Orange ext. black int. Check to see if the crossmember under the transmissom is welded on the outer ends to the frame as a four speed was. With an automatic it was bolted.

Ok, I will do that. It looks like the hand written note mentions 3 point seat belts, there is only a replacement belt there now. How can I tell if there was shoulder belts. Also can you tell if the car came with tilt/tele steering from the build sheet. non of those numbers match the black book codes.

Cal I don't have the build sheet codes for 1972. Some are the same as the black book other numbers and letters I hope others on this board can help you. The anchor for the shoulder belts was installed in all the units so the build sheet is the only way to tell if your 72 had this option or the tilt tele column. Lyle

          Cal:

I don't see the ecl code for tilt/telescopic column option in your listing of items on the Corvette Order Copy.

If your convertible was equiped with optional shoulder harness, you should have an opening slit on the outer side of the metal reinforcement plate and a backing plate on backside of the upper seatback.

The seat back where the belt should go through is solid. They may have changed seats. The build code does have hand written in 2vav3aa seat & shoulder /3 point and underb it is RN 3637

I checked under the car, the brace that the transmission rest on, ( is it the one with the exhaust pipe holes through it) is welded on not bolted. Would it have been hard to switch to the single wide brake peddle, and will be it be difficult to switch back to the three peddle set up
              thanks

Your frame probably is original and could be switched back to a four speed as the wireing for the four speed may be their. The bracket for the clutch may still be on the frame. The pedals should be a bolt on switch.

Jim Cal has a 72 and the build sheet engine code was 4-speed I was just checking with a 75 engine and automatic transmission to see what frame he had.It is welded so it probably is the original 72 frame.
