    C1 Radiator

Can I remove the radiator from a '62 without removing the hood?

don't know about a 62, but I was able to on my 60, remove my original copper top fill radiator (with no expansion tank)and reinstall a new Dewitts alum. repro without having to remove the hood. I think I had to remove the hood prop and carefully without rubbing on the hood opening in the front, open the hood beyond the normal stop position. As I recall it was a simple thing to do.

I think you might be able to...

... if you detach the hood support and pivot the hood further forward during removal. Note that I've never tried this... Good Luck.

You can, but it's not highly recommended, especially if your paint on the underside of the hood is in good shape.

          Hi Chris

I have a 62 vette and I put the radiator in with the hood on with no problem at all. After you take the fan shroud off, the radiator will come out easy. But like Mike said about the paint, you need to be carefull.Drain out the antifreeze real good.Maybe try to plug the tubes so no antifreeze drips out.Try flushing the radiator with clean water, then you'll have no worries about antifreeze on paint.

          Good luck.......John

Like the others suggest, it will come out with no problem after removing the fan shroud, top hold down and radiator hoses. I also suggest that you remove the fan from the front of the water pump. The radiator will then pluck right out of the two lower rubber mounts. Note that you will have to tilt it slightly towards the engine compartment to clear the hood (I did not remove the hood stay rod). It is because of the tilt that you want to remove the fan and be wary of any residual antifreeze leaking out of the lower fitting.

Be sure to mount and tighten the lower hose before you replace the shroud otherwise it is very difficult to get on. It can be done however in case you forget!
