1969 Corvette - Exterior Side Mirrors

I recently purchased a 1969 corvette convertible. The car came with both driver and passenger side door sport mirrors. My goal is to restore the vehicle back to its orginal equipment and wasn't sure if sport mirrors were offered as an option in 1969. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

If by "sport", you mean "teardrop" shaped mirrors be they chrome or body color, no, they were not a factory option in '69. The only mirror was a driver side mirror which is rectangular and chrome plated. This mirror was, of course, standard equipment.

Thank you for your response. Yes, the mirrors are "teardrop" and the color of the body. Are there any resources you can refer me to that would provide me with information on what was or was not considered orginal equipment for a 69?

      Thanks again.

If you can find a 1969 sales brochure, it would help. Look on Ebay, they're always there. Or you could buy an NCRS Judging Guide from the NCRS store on this web site! This is the best way to find out what was standard equipment, optional, and what is "correct" for that model year. Also, the NCRS Technical Guide, also for sale here, has all the "numbers", production codes, dates, part numbers, etc. of all major components for 1969. This is the easy part of restoring your car. Good luck!

            Mike,
I haven't looked at any of the links you posted, but the picture that comes up under your posting looks like the later 1970s "wide body" mirror. If my perception is correct, the mirror on that red car is not the 1969 style either.
A good suggestion, if the car is a keeper, is to arm ones self with a full collection of factory service manuals (Chassis Service and Overhaul Manuals), NCRS TIM&JG (Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide), Dobbins Vette Vues Fact Book, and AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) -- just for openers. The library can build from there

I wasn't sure if it was that or just the angle of the shot. The others on that auction looked smaller. However, it was to give him a more accurate look than the sport mirrors he has.

When it gets down to it, all of the mirrors on these auctions may be wrong, which is more and more typical of restored cars on eBay.

Mike did you notice the nice looking 69 400hp left the factory as a 390 hp?

I was just glancing through auctions looking for any having clear pictures of mirrors.

But now that you mentioned it, I went back to look and not sure what you are seeing.

The tank sticker has the "390 to 400" listed near the bottom.

I did notice that they start off with how they did this two-year restoration and starting with item 4, Pistons, you begin to see a list of things that were not restored: 9.5:1 pistons, 7/16" rods, hardened seats, stainless steel valves, different cam, and painted in acrylic urethane.

I feel very confident in saying that NO 1969 Corvette EVER left the St. Louis factory with anything but a chrome, rectangular head, driver's side mirror. No passenger side mirror, at all.

Mike I was looking at the order copy at the top, second line where it said engine 390 hp.
