hello all,
i am asking a question for a friend who is not yet an ncrs member (talking him into it and to get judging manual). he has a 74 convertible and was not sure if his wiper blades are stainless or black. TIA
as a side note about my friend's car, it is a 74 blue convertible L-48. he bought it new in 1974 and put it in storage 29 years ago. kind of like a magazine story, he had to cut the door down where it was stored to get to it (this year, 2005). the car is completly original and has 7 thousand miles (!!!) on it (all markings, tags etc still intact). he is kind of unaware of what he has so i have pleaded with him not to touch anything, just do some gentle cleaning to the car. this car is certainly a bowtie candidate and would be a good source for historical info on original 1974's (anyone doing surveys on 74's or whoever puts together the 74 judging manual, feel free to contact me for further info). we were at a local corvette club's show this past weekend (using NCCC rules) and my friend had his 74 judged in the "show n shine" class category. when the judges came around, they frowned at the 74's engine compartment because the valve covers (with original tags, markings) had some chips on them and said "you should paint them, and that.....etc" to make it look better. needless to say, i cringed at that suggestion and informed the two judges of the car's originality and its unrestored condition. i was met with a blank stare as they then pointed out the bumper's discoloration......sigh!
