I recently picked-up five '66 hubcaps, and when matching them up with the four already on the car, the black area of the newly acquired ones are all a bit different.
That is, some have distinct 'black' color, while others have a more 'grayish' metallic look. It seems that either the chrome under-color is showing thru, or the black was intentionally softened. Whatever.
Understanding the hubcaps are almost 40 years old, I can for sure believe an aging process has occured.
Were the original hubs more 'black'? More grayish? Or was obtaining a uniform finish on the hubcaps back in '65 left to chance and as being somewhat unimportant to manufacturing?
Thanks for your opinions.
