    Bowtie Question????

I know of an Orange 1974 T-Top Corvette. , 350, TH400, L-48, 52,000 miles, original invoice, tank sticker for sale. The Exterior (needs paint, original) and Interior (excellent original).
Engine has been worked on but all original parts are available. Exhaust was changed but saved. Shocks have been replaced. Good possibility for at least 2 if not 4 Star Bowtie Award.

My question is if all the original parts are put back on and not refinished or overly cleaned could the engine and chassis pass the Bowtie test?

    Re: Bowtie Question????

In my opinion, I think you might run into issues with parts that have been off the car for a while and then put back on. That could be equivalent, in effect, to finding parts from various sources to "build" a bowtie. If the judges can tell stuff has been off and on a car, I don't know that they could entertain the argument that the parts actually were on that particular car to start with. Not to dispute your situation, but unfortunately anyone could claim that if the case of correct parts taken from another car.

IF any repainting was done on engine, the parts issue is moot.

If the paint is too far gone, it won't pass muster, as the characteristics of the factory finish will have been lost.

Four stars equals Bowtie. Anything less is a Star award only.

52,000 mile chassis will have a 5% chance as their must be some original finishes. Find a 4000 or less mileage 74 to have a good chance.

So what was the chance on my 60,000 mile 72?
Who knows, but at least I've got my Bowtie.

I think your odds are more likely related to a) did a previous owner replace items, and b) did he hate rust and spray paint it all black underneath.
Those two seem to kill more cars than anything else.

Your odds go down with more miles and if you want to roll the dice give it a try it will work sometimes.

I'm not sure if it's "just" the miles or more the condition. My 71 (at 128,000) has twice the miles of my 72 (61,000), yet because it was a California car the chassis is actually in much better condition. Yet due to other issues it's no Bowtie car.

I've recently seen a very low mile car with a chassis and underbody all painted black by the original owner of 30+ years who just couldn't stand the look of rust. I doubt it will be a Bowtie car, but should get the other 3 Stars. So miles are one of the factors. Bubba can easily be the other.

This is a Canadian Vette. I have not had a good look at the undercarriage so I am not sure of the condition.

When you look at the car look for shim marks, tape on the body mounts, and paint dabs on parts. The final question is could someone restore a frame correctly looking at the finishes on all the parts on this 74.

Despite corrosion on my 72, for example, I'd say yes.

When I returned home Sunday from the Regional, I put the car up on my lift to check the battery cable problem. While under there I was giving my Mom a "tour" of all those details as they are still visible on the car.

So, Gary will have to check and see.
