Anybody here try this sand blaster idea?

    Curious if it really works...

I don't blast enough to justify purchasing a cabinet.

Tracy: To me,the description suggests an open-loop, non recovery system. Would be fine for coarse work (chassis stuff)with cheap ($7 per 100#)silica sand media, but for glass beads would not be economical. And glass beads are so much more gentle & versatile. TIP tools puts their 780 top-load cabinet on sale for ~$300 bucks from time to time. Hook up a cheap ShopVac and you're all set. Best money I ever spent. Keep the pressure down and the beads last many impacts. I can't imagine doing restoration work without one.

I e-mailed some of the buyers and asked if they actually built the blaster and how they like it. Waiting for responses. Maybe you could do the same and we'll compare answers.

        Tracy,

Greatest thing in the world, take a look at this post:

The cabinet was $116 from Harbor Freight. After adding a Compressor (get a 5HP with a 15-20 gal tank or more), small shop vac and beads, you are in for about $400. Really great results in finishing any metal parts or for plating.

            Also

Get yourself a good filtered respirator. The beads are very fine and are permanent if the get in your lungs. Also plenty of Rollin Rock, best beer in the world, been drinking it since 67 in Norfolk, VA

              Tracy----
FWIW - I built a bead blaster cabinet similar to plans from TIP (about $10 for the plans if memory serves). I ordered their window w/ gasket, hose grommet and hose w/ gun. Two sheets of 3/4" plywood and a grate from a local metal works. The cost complete including steel angle legs from Home Depot was about $75. Of course that was prior to hurricanes of this and last year. Used it for my '54 (never finished) & '67 (restored over 11 years ago). Lately it has been stored until I finish my garage/shop addition where I have a seperate room for the dirty/dusty work.

Thanks to all for the input!

Looking to fab or buy something on the cheap that is large enough to blast a wheel and is relatively maintance free. My experiences with clogged nozzels are not pleasant.
