    Oil dripage outside carburator

On occasion around the sides of my carb. towards the front and underneath I see what appears to be dried oil colored drip lines?? What does this mean? My 1966 coupe has some type of Holley on it now not the 3367 that was stock on the manual 1966. Should I convert back to the Carter WCFB since it was stock for the automatic and my kickdown seems to be malfunctioning since when starting from a stopped position the car lags in that lower gear before kicking out of it.

I would really be surprised if that was oil. I know that one of the bowl screws on my Holley was slightly loose allowing fuel to seep out and stain the manfold in the area that you described. Add to that, dirt, grit, and who knows what else and I had a dark brown stain, appearing as if oil were staining.

I don't know where you got the idea that a Carter WCFB was used for 1966 300 hp with Powerglide applications. The last use of a Carter-designed carburetor on a Corvette was 1965. For that year, the WCFB was used for all 250 hp applications and the AFB for 300 HP applications. For 1966, all Corvette engines used a Holley carb and, for 300 hp, both manual and automatic applications used the 3367A.

Ref: CORVETTE Restoration Guide 1963-1967 Author: Richard F. Newton On Page 80 under "Fuel Systems" Carburetion Systems he states as I mentioned for the base model 1965 Corvette a page later 81 states for the 1966 327 cid 250 bhp "This was virtually the same as the 1965 base engine, makes no mention of the 3367A? Next question was the 3367A used on both manual and auto transmissions? This book was edited by John Adams-Graf

Meant to ask if the 3367A was identical in design for both manual and auto?

                Gary-----

If Richard Newton and John Adams-Graf were saying that there was a 250 hp engine for 1966 and that engine used the same carburetor and was the same configuration as the 1965 250 hp, then they're wrong. Period. There was no 250 hp engine for 1966 Corvette. So, the issue of what carburetor that engine used is moot.

All 1966 Corvette engines used a Holley carburetor. Both manual transmission and automatic transmission equipped cars with the 300 hp (base) engine and WITHOUT K-19 used the Holley 3367A, also known as GM #3884505. As a matter of fact, 1966 non K-19 L-79 used the same carburetor, too.

If the 300 hp or L-79 was originally equipped with K-19, then the Holley 3605A carburetor was used. This carburetor was also known as GM #3890499.

The 3367A used for BOTH automatic transmission and manual transmission applications was also known as GM #3884505. The fact that the part numbers were originally the same indicates that the carburetors were the same.
