    C4 ELECTRICAL

I HAVE A 1985 VETTE WITH ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. I THOUGHT IT WAS COMING FROM THE FACTORY SECURITY SYSTEM AND NOW I'M NOT SURE. WHEN I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO START MY CAR AFTER IT RAN AND SHUT IT OFF. THE STARTER WOULD NOT ENGAGE EVEN AFTER GOING THROUGH THE PROPER PROCEDURE WITH THE KEY. IT WOULD HAVE TO SET SOMETIMES AS LONG AS AN HOUR BEFORE IT WOULD START. NOW I TRIED TO START IT AND THE DASH INSTRUMENT PANNEL WENT BLACK AND WILL NOT COME BACK ALIVE EVEN WITH A BATTERY CHARGER ON THE BATTERY. I HAVE CHECKED THE FUSEABLE LINK BY THE BATTERY AND IT IS OK. ANY HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

    Re: C4 ELECTRICAL

If you have the service manual for the car, there is a very good electrical troubleshooting section you can use to analyse this problem. If you don't have the manual, buy or borrow one. Your other option is to have a Corvette shop or dealership troubleshoot the problem. Your post does not really give a lot to go on, other than to suggest you check the battery connections and especially the grounds. You will need a voltmeter and some time to check the electrical diagram in the manual to see where the problem exists. Without the electrical schematic or wiring diagram we would just be guessing.

Without having the factory service manual to service your 85 you could spend a lot of frustrating hours to find the problem. The service from an expert, something that Chevrolet dealership may not be able to provide, is available for a fee from Gordon Killebrew. A veteran employee of the Corvette plant he does know what is wrong with your car and can tell you how to fix it. If you have the time and money you can even attend classes and learn all about C4 trouble shooting from him. Visit his web page.
