    Car C2...where are you?

    Gentlemen:

This is an observation I've formed in the past two months of spectacular driving weather here in eastern PA. Since prior to Carlisle, we've experienced mostly blue skies and no rain...but where are the C2s? (minus the Carlisle area, of course).

    I've put maybe 50 hrs road time with my '67 conv. since mid-August, and haven't seen but 1, O-N-E, C2. (I wave).

There were just a few more C3's and C4s. No C1's.

I mix my touring among IH's, back roads and everything in between (no cities).

Is it me or have circumstances cropped-up such that I've failed to spot a C2 on-coming?

I'm thinking, after posting this, the C2 guys will come out of the woodwork. Figures.

    Tom

They are all in their climate controlled garages becoming museum pieces.

I agree of course we live in the SW mnts of Colorado on a horse ranch. Don't even see C3's or C4's down here. But we don't have to put with Denver Metro either. The 67 L-79 serves as a good ranch car. Roads are always open, few federales. Hole shots are still possible. I digress, it's a shame the C1 and C2's have gotten so far up in dollar figures that people don't drive 'em. I do wave at the Hummers and 60's Muscle that seem to preside here. Save the Wave.

I live in Colorado Springs and this past weekend, my wife and I put 405 miles on our '66 L79. All 405 miles were driven with the top down, including driving over trail ridge road in Rocky Mountain National Park, which tops out at over 12,000 feet. The weather was incredible, the aspens trees are changing colors and the mountain roads had lots of curves. What a great way to spend the weekend.

I live north and close to the Indps. area and the C3/4/5s look at me as if they have never seen a 67. But we do all wave.It has been good driving this summer and hopefully this fall ! Good driving to all!

I drive my 64 every day and sometimes I think I'm the only C2 up here. Although, I have seen 3 others in the last month but unfortunately, it's when I'm getting lumber or something with the truck.

I agree that the c2's are few and far between even in Ontario. However my son acquired a 66 driver coupe this past year and with that 327 , 4 spd with side pipes this is the ultimate road machine. Even my 71 conv. or 64 coupe can't compare to the 66. What a great car and even I pinch myself when he says take her for a ride dad. I wonder what the insurance is for?

I see a few around town, but very few on the highway. I see more cobra clones. I just got my 67 running after having it sit in the garage for 19 years. I forgot just how good driving one is. Having just rebuilt everthing under the car, it sure drives better than it did 19 years ago.

I sure dont see the wave anymore.

                        Re: Car C2...where are you?

Ralph, you hit the problem on the head - insurance.

With prices going insane, the insurance most have covers them as trailer queens basically and so no one drives them. Sure, you get 2500 miles per year on some policies, but most are to shows, club events, or repairs.

Just tooling around the great outdoors is questionable.

I talked to a guy a few months ago going to one of the local weekly shows. He got hit in the rear and his insurance nearly cancelled him He WAS going to a show (turning into the show lot at the time) and it wasn't his fault (hit in the rear) yet the insurance went nuts.

A friend inquired directly if driving to see his retired parents on a beautiful day out in the country would be covered or not. Well, NOT is the answer. A simple day trip 50 miles to check on his parents is a no-no.

So why are so many not out and about? They can't.

                          Re: Car C2...where are you?

Here in Florida, I see very few old Corvettes. When I'm out in my '79, it is one of the oldest on the road. There is a yellow '66 convertible that a brake shop guy owns and drives most of the time. It is a very rare exception.

There is an orange '77 with a primered front bumper that is seen occasionally. A black '73 has just recently appeared on the streets, but again rarely.

There are several late '70s C3s sitting in yards and driveways, but rarely seen on the road. Many have for sale signs.

                          Lots of late C4s, C5s, and C6s. I can't remember the last C1.

                            Hagerty says:
Flexible Usage. Drivers can enjoy their classics with comfortable limits. Our program allows for an occasional leisure drive, not just to parades or car events.

So we take the 57 out as often as we can while the sun is shining!

They have the WRONG insurance companies - there are several that provide agreed-value coverage and still allow you to enjoy your car
