    2001 GMMG Z06 Convertible

I realize that the techical content of this post is questionable at best, but I wanted to ask:
I saw an ad on ebay for a 2001 GMMG / Skunk Werkes Z06 convertible 1 of 6 made. Is this homoglomation considered legit by Corvette purists standards, or is it just a modified car that will only depreciate in value?

Or let me ask it another way, which vehicle has the better potential to become a collector's item in 30 years, this vehicle, or a 2006 Z06?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

    Jay -

Others may disagree, but IMO it's just another converted/modified car, and will depreciate faster than a similar unmolested car; the first owner of these things takes an AWFUL hit at selling time.

      John,
Thanks for your honest response. It's just so hard to tell right now what will and won't be a collector's item later. If I could get my hands on a C6 Z06 for MSRP, it wouldn't even be an issue!

      Any other feedback?

      Thanks,
      Jay

On the flip side, could it be "worth" something extra like a Yenko or Baldwin-Motion car someday? Who knows. A lot of people think the conversion is really nice.

At the present, you've got to buy for your own enjoyment. You'll never be able to predict collectibility, unless you're buying a Ferrari. 6000 Z06's a year is NOT a rare car by any means.

Last time I looked there was a Chevrolet dealer in Montana that is selling C6 Z06's for MSPR. He has a waiting list.

Sorry I am not answering your question but you know allthough I was a kid at the time.

With all of the hype of this Z06 coming out reminds me of what was happening in 1976 with the last convertable cadillac, and 1978 with the pace car corvette.Folks buying them to store them away as an investment. Folks paying way over MSRP for them just to have them first.

If I was in the market for an investment car I would be looking at the C3's they seem to still be selling at very reasonable prices.

Predicting future value on Corvettes is virtually impossible. If you are looking for an investment find another one. The return on equity in a decent stock will far outweigh and out perform the investment in a collector car.

The Z06 will be selling for MSRP or less by Spring yet many dealers are asking and getting $5-6K over sticker just like the first SSR's. They may be a collector's item someday but for now you are better off buying them to drive than to invest.

You are correct about the investment, but you can't drive a stock!!

Thanks for the tips. I have checked with Kirbeck and Les Stanford. Neither will take a deposit right now. The gentleman from Kirbeck said it could be months before they ever know what their true allotment will be.

                    Thanks,
