I'm getting ready to install my rebuilt pumpkin and was looking for guidance on correct finish. Was it raw cast or painted black.???? Also would appreciate a description of the original style nuts and washers. Thanks in advance.

The axle was painted semi-gloss black as a complete finished assembly (including the pumpkin, parking brake cables and brake drums) at Detroit Gear & Axle. The late Dale Pearman's research indicated that the '61-'62 pumpkin was attached to the housing with plain steel nuts and no lockwashers or copper washers.
