I am about to order carpet from Al Knoch for my 66 coupe. Before I do so I would like to ask what people feel is the best underlayment (sound deadner), brand and type. I would appreaciate any feedback. Clark #42490.

I went to a auto upholstery shop and got some underpading that was about 3/16 to 1/2 inch thick. It was aluminum foil on one side and fiber fill on the other, they sell it by the yard and it is very inexpensive. They call it heat barrier and it really works well.It does not interfere with the carpet fit at all, but I had ACC carpet which did not fit real well any way.Try one of your local shop's they will have it. All the hot rodders use it.Tom # 41491- Top

Re: C2 Carpet
Two years ago I ordered a complete carpet set from Al Knoch for my '67. They do make fine products, but they must have made up my carpet set on Friday the 13th. It was waaay to big and puffy, didn't fit correctly, there was a wrinkle sewn in the rubber heel pad. The plastic backing is not very forgiving as the original jute backing. I finally gave up on it. Trim has the correct carpet with the jute backing and I'm going to give that a try.
My underlayment is not that horse hair and jute padding; I used a 100% dense rubber commercial carpet pad about 1/4" thick and it's not cheap about $6 a square yard. Cut the pleats, glued it in and then used covered it with HVAC aluminum foil sticky tape. See below. PTAttached Files- Top

Re: C2 Carpet
I used Super Insulator from Tru-Max available from Summit. I have a BB and the heat in the cockpit was almost unbearable in the summer. After I put this stuff down it was like night and day. Very comfortable to drive in the summer now. Here's a link I found that helped me with this project:

Re: C2 Carpet
I purchased carpet for my 67 coupe from Long Island Corvettes who purchased it from Auto Accessories of America who purchased it from Auto Custom Carpets.
The front pieces fit fairly well. The back areas were too large (wheel wells and one piece flat center) The carpet is on a very firm poly backing that is not "forgiving" when attempting to make this stuff fit the various contours.
I installed it over "original type" new underlayment. If it were installed over the heat barrier or aftermarket heavy underlayment I believe it would fit even worse as those underlayments are thinner making the carpet pieces even larger for the various areas.... my 2 cents- Top

Re: C2 Carpet
Clark,
Al Knoch also has carpet underlayment. I received mine from them last week. I won't know the details about fit, etc. until it is installed. They also have quart cans of adhesive for installation.
The backing is not brown jute as original. It is a gray material, but seems to have a good feel when compressed between two fingers. The top surface approximates the original.
If you give Dale a call, perhaps he will send you a sample for evaluation.
Good luck,
