    1963 Expansion tank decal

    Good Saturday morning all. I'm replacing the expansion tank decal on my 1963 Coupe, built December 2nd 1962. Most catologs list a decal for cars built up to December 1962 and a decal built after that timeline. I would think either decal could be appropiate since the car was built..."on the bubble". My question(s) is what is the difference between the 2 decals as the lising in the catalog has a LH as part of the listing # on the second decal? Thanks in advance.

    Re: 1963 Expansion tank decal

    Hello Mike,

    The differences are;

    Cars built BEFORE December of the year 1962 have the anti-freeze label attached to the radiator surge/overflow tank. This label recommends changing to a 160 degree thermostat if methanol based antifreeze is used. 1963 models produced AFTER December 1962 and all models up to approximately VIN 14500 (4/1964) use a different label, which states, in part, that the "Filler Cap Must Be Tight". This label is placed on the upper left side of the radiator and may obscure the radiator part number and assembly date. The final type of label is used from 1964 approximately VIN 14500 (4/1964) to the end of 1964 production. This label is also placed on the upper left side of the radiator and may obscure the radiator part number and assembly date. It states in part, that the "Cooling System Was Protected To -20F".

    "LH" in the catalog p/n is being referred to as the Left Hand side of the radiator.

    I think either decal location would be correct, but if it were me, since the Judging Guide states cars built after December of 1962 have the decal on the top left hand side of the radiator that is were I would put the decal.

    The decal for the pre-December 1962 built cars would be Corvette Central p/n 262604, Paragon p/n 8156 or Doc Rebuild p/n 8999409.
    The decal for cars built December of 1962 and to 1964 VIN #14500 would be Corvette Central p/n 262609, Paragon p/n 8155 or Doc Rebuild p/n 8999410.
    The decal for cars built after 1964 VIN #14500 would be Corvette Central p/n 262610, Paragon p/n 8157 or Doc Rebuild p/n 8999411.
