    Question For Jerry Bramlett-Joe Ray

I'm trying to gather info on the early/late design 63 hardtops and have posted several times here on the board but I think most don't understand what I'm asking so I thought I'd check in with a couple of guys that have "been around the block" on this deal.

Is the "notch" style 63 top early/1st design or did the notch show up later in production? (JG says later)

Were the rear window upper and lower reinforcement tabs that attach to the glass early/1st design or did they show up later in the 63 run? (JG says they were 1st design SOP)

Harry Sadlock and I are trying to sore through a few things in the JG that we feel are incorrect but we need input and especially pic's of these items, along with the date in the rear window to prove the point in time of mfg.

Anyone else that happens to have an original 63 h-top handy, please give us the info. Thanks,

    Michael

Re: Question For Jerry Bramlett-Joe Ray

    Michael,

Look like the JG is upside down AGAIN! The early tops did NOT have the tabs in the back. Chevrolet decided to install them cause early hardtop rear windows would pop out at high speed especially when someone rolled the window down. DUH!

The notches were early also and disappeared sometime around Mid to Late production run. All the replacement HT's from 63 up had no notches and did have the extra hardware to keep the rear window in place.

Just my two cents but it seems very logical to me. Will check on a few 63's that I know are original.

    Regards,

    JR

Pic of the Notch in 63 Top

This is the "Notch" that 63 hardtops have. An area roughly 3" to 4" long and 1/4" high. Need dates on back window of tops that have this notch, and also known 63 tops that do not have the notch. Hope to have a pic of the reinf bracket on the back glass soon.

        Like he said.

I am pretty sure the hard top I got with '63 #16 is the one that was on this car when it left GM. That car also still has its original black soft top fabric. This does not mean these that parts are nice, just that they are probably original to this car.

I'll be glad to e-mail some photos tomorrow of the hard top areas in question.

        Jerry

p.s. My wife says I have gone "around the bend". Is that the same as having been "around the block"?

Michael, I have scanned the Engineering NPCs (Notice of Production Change) for all of the C07 option in question but I'm having trouble sending it to you----someday I will figure out how to send attachments. I will get it figured out, hopefully, tomorrow and send them asap.I'm sure they will answer lots of your questions.

Thanks Jerry, JR and Everyone That helped....

Thanks to everyone that sent info and pic's of their 63 hardtops. I think we finally have enough data for our JG correction project.

                Thanks Art.

It may be easier to send the scans directly to my "other" email address instead of through the board. I'll send the address directly to you.

Sure appreciate the time spent to track down this info. It will be nice to get this hardtop issue corrected. Thanks again,

                Michael

Re: Question For Jerry Bramlett-Joe Ray

Michael, I have several of the hardtops listed by glass date and characteristics (notch, no notch, supports, etc). I need hardtops with glass dates of March, May, June, July and August of 63. I see a trend starting but I need lots more data. If anyone has a 63 top from these months, please email with a picture or the info about the hardtop.

                  Thanks

                  Harry

                    Harry,

May be best to post another brand new request as this string is so old that no one will see it.
