From what I have read it seems that wheel rims for Corvettes came in bulk to the assembly line in dull gloss black primer and were placed on a rack for body color paint. If I ever get my car judged should the rims be body color both sides? Did they paint both sides of the rims ,or only the face? Thanks

'61 wheels
In '61 all wheels were body colored and sprayed from the front only. Paint was only applied to the outer diameter so it should be black in the center, some body overspray in the middle and then solid body color around the outside. Paint did get thru the opening between the rim and center disc so some paint will be on the backside of the wheel.
If you have the dates and info from the rims can you supply it to me? Also whether welded or riveted? Also whether it has dogbones(seen in the backside of the center disc hear the welds to the rim).
Thanks, Chris- Top

Re: '61 wheels
Chris is correct. However, "just painted around the outside diameter" may have been the design--most of those wheels that I have documented as original have paint in the center--just not as thorough, occasionally, as around the outside. Others with no difference between center and outside.- Top

Re: rims Chris Henige
3 times I tried to email details of car and rims directly to you but the NCRS site didn't allow it for some reason. Anyway, the rims are spot welded and the only markings I saw were GM stamped on a rised area next to a lug hole on each rim.2nd owner 1961 283 270hp Car # 10867S109538 acquired early in 1968, California car $1,750.
