Re: Gelcoat for 67 Coupe
re gelcoat for coupe tom buddie i have used ecklers gelcoat and it performed well as long as i followed the application instructions exactly any variance in humidity temperature solvent selection and you will have problems with your spray gun you also need to determine if your gun is set up properly to spray gelcoat parts may be parts but spray guns must be selected and configured specifically for the material you intend to spray viscosity volume weight etc i'm not saying you can't go to sears buy a spray gun and spray gelcoat luck of the draw also you have to take into account what sealer primer and top coats you are going to use there are compatability adhesion sealing and other issues re other products there have been several articles about this in corvette vette magazines and if i recall correctly there is a modern and more durable solution to the gelcoat process that involves a different set of chemicals i don't know the pro's con's of these systems but you need to talk to a person who really knows their product line intimately and ask a lot of questions i have a ' that i stripped gelcoated where needed and repainted with lacquer in it needs to be done again and this time i will try the newer painting systems catalyzed it's a big job and i wouldn't want to do it a third time hope this helps- Top
