I have two chrome vertical ignition shields that I think mount to the distributor shield box (whihc I do not have yet) on the left and right and are intended to cover the spark plug wires but I do not know for what year they apply. My car is a 68 small block and I don't know if these shields are correct for my car or not. Is there any way I can tell if they are correct for my 68 so I do not buy what I may already have. They all look the same in the catalogs so pictures aren't helping much.
Thank you in advance,
Kurt #26406
There were 2 different sets of these vertical ignition wire shields used over the 68-77 period. 68-74 small blocks used shields GM #3923965, left, and GM #3934834, right. 75-77 used shields GM #351697, left, and GM #351698, right. The latter shields became SERVICE for 68-74 after the original parts were discontinued. Both sets of shields are VERY similar. I've never actually compared them to see what differences there are (although I have MANY sets of these of both part numbers [none for sale]). The part numbers are not usually stamped on these pieces, so there's no way to tell them apart by that means.
63-67 small block vertical shields are similar, but different.
I don't know how to describe the configuration of the shields used for 1968 to you. If I can, I'll take and post a picture later of known 68-74 shields.
Thank you Joe. I was hoping you would reply. I will await your pictures. I also have the same question regarding the "V" shields as I was given a set of these by the shop that painted my car in July and I don't know if those are correct either.
