I recently installed an original, rebuilt 40083 AC fuel pump on my '66 small block. I has started leaking and fuel can be seen seeping out on the top. I'll be removing it to rebuilt it. Is there anything in particular that I might look for, or does the rebuilt kit pretty much take care of whatever might be causing the leaking?

Re: ORIGINAL 40083 AC FUEL PUMP
Rob,
When I did my 4657 pump I had a machine shop broach the surfaces just to make sure everything is flat. I don't want to full around with any fuel leaks in this area.- Top

Re: ORIGINAL 40083 AC FUEL PUMP
Rob,
The screws that secure the main flange are very small and have a fine thread. Sometimes these threads will strip thus causing a loose fit at the flange.
I have an early 66 327/300 engine and installed a 4657 pump on it. There has been a lot of debate about the 40083 vs 4657 fuel pump on the early 66 SB as referenced in the JM. Nolan Adams's book states that only the 4657 was used on the 66 SB.

Re: ORIGINAL 40083 AC FUEL PUMP
Paragon carries a fuel pump rebuild kit rifle shot at 40083 pumps. Check them out on their PN 496K. Understand, today's rebuild kits differ slightly from factory original parts (exact construction & geometry of diaphram, same for lower seal, precise head style of body attaching screws, Etc.) and some judges look very closely at fuel pumps...- Top
