For the battery disconnect switch is it preferred to position the disconnect on the "Postive" or "Negative" terminal of the battery??? Is this position judged??? What is the electrical logic of its position???

Scroll down to the thread entitled "71, What's Best Battery Disconnect" that started on September 29th for everything you ever wanted to know on this subject. The position isn't judged - just its presence for bonus points.- Top

Re: Midyear Battery Disconnect
This was discussed a few days ago. Disconnecting the negative post is somewhat better in that if you accidently short the positive wiring to ground (engine etc) there is no continuity other than to the negative post on the battery.
I don't believe its judged as to which terminal, just whether its present or not.
Some of the disconnects (green knob) only fit the negative terminal and battery cable connection, which is smaller than the positive terminal.
I found that it was difficult to install a green knob disconnect in the space provided on a C2. I fashioned an upright terminal on the disconnect so that the battery cable was in the same "plane" when installed on the disconnect..- Top

Re: Midyear Battery Disconnect
Larry, Just buy a Save-ty Switch (advertised in Driveline) and be done with it. The neg. cable sits in the proper plane or orientation to the terminal and the switch is reversible to suit the configuration you like.
