    Re: different (C) classes

    Paul----
    Someone may correct me with the exact models somewhere but here goes.
    C1 = 53 thru 62
    C2 = 63 thru 67
    C3 = 68 thru 82
    C4 = 84 thru 96
    C5 = 97 thru 05
    C6 = 06 ---
    Big blocks started in 1965 with the 396ci, changed to 427ci in 1966 and 454ci in 1970 thru 1974.

            Larry, The car show organizers that group 3 generations of Vettes together either don't know a thing about Corvettes or didn't buy enough trophies!Consider yourself lucky, I went to a show that had a class called "Postwar Domestic Sports". Vettes were lumped in with Nash Healeys,55-57 T Birds and, of course, Kaiser-Darrins (yes, there were some in the show).By the way, a Vette won!

              Art...No 1983 Corvettes were sold. The only survivor resides in the National Corvette Museum. There were 15 1983 pilot cars built, but these were supposedly destroyed. Problems with the new digital dash delayed production. Corvette introduced an early 1984 instead.

                Don & Art----
                Thanks for correcting me. Where did all the '83s go anyway?
                These C classes are for the Corvette bodies, generally speaking, not NCRS judging divisions. Some smaller car shows may deviate from NCRS and group the classes differently from NCRS. No big deal for those seeking weekend fun with their cars.

                  Louis, Actually I do know that there was no 1983MY Corvettes produced for sale to the public, I was just pulling someones chain.

                  In fact there were 43 1983MY Corvettes built, 33 Pilot vehicles and 10 Non saleable vehicles. The digital dash had nothing to do with, it was a matter of economics and logistics, with the late start up of production at BG for the 1982MY and the very high cost of certifying a vehicle for the Federal FMVSS requirments, a very short 1983MY run was out of the question financially.
                  The only one still in existence in the one in the NMC, the others were destroyed.
                  However I do have a 1983MY AIM if you are interested.

                    Re: different (C) classes

                    I was working for the plant in Trim Department on the 83Y pilot build program. We were still receiving “prototype” parts as the production build date was arriving instead of production parts. The supply chain was not in place to build the 83 properly as the parts were still with problems. This was not only in Trim but all production departments were experiencing the same problem.

                    The only reason that the remaining 83 is still around is that it was used as a development car (Mule) for the plant. We were using it through the certification of the 84 parts and then it went outside and was replaced with a 84 prior to the release of the 84’s. The 83 was later used by Paint Department for a training vehicle and had a American Flag painted on the front of the car if you can believe that. It set out side for many months to test the effect of the sun and weather on the paint also until one day the plant wanted to put it on display in the employee entrance.

                    If one will look at the 83 closely there are some differences between the it and the 84. One such item is the door handles. The 83 has 83 doors with 84 handles because the door handles changed early in the 84 pilot program and needed to be tested for fit, function and installation ease. Next time your at the NCM looking at the 83 remind your self to look for differences.

                    By the way, I still have a Green Line drawing of the 83’s wiring system along with a few other things that bring back memories.
