    1971 engine compartment evaluation

I'd appreciate the judgement of those much more knowledgeable than I am on an LT-1 engine compartment. It's ebay 4580075276. It just looks too nice and fresh to me to be a 70k mile unrestored engine bay. Is it because I'm used to looking at scruffy 62's, or is this one just too nice? The paint looks convincing, but the engine????
    Thanks,
    Mike Ernst

    Mike,

    Here ar my thoughts...

    1. Having spent all day with my Bowtie 72 with Dark Saddle interior, I will virtually guarantee you the seats in this 71 have been redone. Color does not match, and they have that "overstuffed" look. The weave also looks typical of reproduction.

    2. The engine has been detailed. I think a lot of the orange was repainted when he alleges the intake gaskets were replaced. The pot on the carb is obivously repainted in "Eastwood Gold Cad." Hose to PB booster has been replaced. I also think someone has been over the car with extra blackout. This picture seems to show an exhaust gasket between the manifold and the block: http://community.webshots.com/photo/...64107849JXfQEj
I see evidence of the gasket in other pics too.
The hose from air cleaner to valve cover appears to have been replaced, and I think the tower clamps on the AIR stuff have been too.

I noticed more, but you get the idea.

The master cylinder doesn't look like the original type.

        Mike,

I totally agree with Patricks evaluation regarding the stuffed seats. I also noticed that the coil is incorrect as well as the evaporator hoses have been replaced as they should have evap stamped onto it. Also note that a vacuum hose is not connected just below the choke.
