C-2 Steering Shock Absorber

I just removed my leaking steering shock absorber (damper) and replaced it. The old one had the following on it: Pliacell, 3178100, Delco Products, Dayton Ohio USA 354-65.
I believe this is the original, with a manufacturing date of Dec 20, 1965 (Car was built Mar 4, 1966). I have been told these can be rebuilt, but am dubious because I have heard that shock absorbers can not be rebuilt. Thoughts?

Where did you hear that the steering dampers could be restored? I'd like to have my original damper restored, but I don't know anyone who does that.

I'm really surprised that Wilcox said this. I'll try and give them a call to confirm if they do the restoration or if they've heard that someone else does it. Frankly, I'm surprised this hasn't been discussed on the DB before, if in fact they can be restored.
