    C2 Values

I have a friend that has started his search to purchase a C2. He has asked me a couple of questions I could not answer. I would like to ask people's thoughts on:

    1. What is the thought on the delta in price between a mid year coupe vs roadster. Example: is a roadster usually worth 10% more than a coupe?

    2. What is the thoughts on the delta in price between a mid year numbers matching car vs a non numbers matching car?

My friend appreciates the feedback. Clark #42490.

You can look this up yourself. Corvette Magazine has a price calculator at www.corvettemagazine.com/cgi-bin/calculator.asp
It might will at least give you some idea and you can compare lots of choices.
    Hope this helps.

      Hi Clark:

I would tend to agree that convertables bring a bit more in the market than coupes. Your 10% estimate sounds about right to me.

The delta on a non-matching engine will likely be a function of which engine is involved. I'd guess about $10K on a small block and a LOT more on a big block.

These are just my impressions from watching the market.

        Joe,

I agree except for '63 where the reverse, plus a little, is true.

I question that valuation system used in that Corvette Magazine web site as I have seen many cars exceed those values listed there!!!

I agree that the absolute values are low, but the proportions seem to be holding pretty well.

                  Re: C2 Values

I think all of the web site guidelines, price calculators, and so on are fun to play with and that is all.

If you want "value", then you have to see what a car sold for. That is valuve, what it sold for, not what it should be worth.

To see what they sold for, you have to look at auction results and sale results. Naturally, the BJ and Mecum auctions are on the high dollar side, and you hav eto remember there is a certain bidding frenzy going on at these, so they represent SOME of the market.

Another is eBay, which has a certain "trailer-trash" element to it, and so you get a lot of prices that are not real sales (deadbeat bidders), but they do tend to bring them back to real world values of normal people rather than those who fly in on their Learjet and sip champaign during the bidding, with a babe hanging off their arm you couldn't afford a single date with. (Well, I couldn't anyway.)

THEN, take all these prices, keep them on a spreadsheet for a year or so, watch for some of those same cars to turn over a few times, and you will see patterns to what prices are.

Simply put, you are not going to find a realistic price guide that is accurate in 5 minutes.
