I just inherited a '66 427 390 hp car. The drive train was recently rebuilt by my father and he checked #'s and everything matched. But I just purchased Noland Adam's book and it says that the BB's had the hood support on the drivers side. This made my heart drop as the hood support on my car is on the passenger side. Were there any BB cars made with the support on the passenger side in '66? Unfortunately in this day and age I realize how easy it is to restamp parts to get them to match. If that is the case the car still has a lot of sentimental value, but it would be nice if it was a matching car.
Original BB?

Re: Original BB?
You got the car for free.
Do you like it?
Then what difference if it is original or not really matter, unless you are planning to sell your inheritage to make a profit?
Even if the hood support is on the wrong side, big deal, that is not the absolute final answer on whether it is an original big block or not. Car could have been wrecked. Inner fender replaced. Old support broke and was replaced with the wrong one. The car is 40 YEARS OLD, a hundred things could have happened to account for it, or it simply could have been that way.
Sentimental overrides original, in terms of personal value. A friend has one of our friend's '61. The guy died in '91 of cancer, and the '61, while mostly original, had several things done to it to make it the way he wanted. The guy who has it kept it that way.
If I found my '63 convertible, I wouldn't restore it, except to the way it was in '76. Sentimental value, the way I owned the car. Restored would just be like any other.
If it bothers you so much, move the support. But then, you may screw up the originality, because it just might be original.- Top
