I recently replaced all 4 calipers and 8 pads on my 69 with standard brakes. As the star wheel for the parking brake adjustment was locked-up on the rear passenger side, I pulled the rear rotor off, removed and greased the star wheel assembly and then adjusted the parking brake shoes so that the rotor was just able to be slipped back on. Sanded the shoes a bit to remove grime with fine sandpaper. The rotor rotated in either direction with a bit of effort...Then, I tightened the star wheel until I could not rotate the rotor and backed off 4-6 clicks. Reattached the cable so that the parking brake holds at about 1/2 to 2/3's up from released.
The rear passenger side wheel is hot to the touch when I have used the car driving around town at 30-35MPH. The other rear wheel is very warm (not hot) and the front 2 wheels are much cooler after use. The rear passenger wheel and center hub, caliper and other parts were hot, but not so hot that I couldn't touch it...I did not see any smoke at all, but did smell a slight odor.
My question is: is this to be expected since the brake pads are brand new and the brake shoes are practically brand new (there was very little wear when I had the rotor off). Does this require further adjustment or is this to be expected with new pads and they will just "wear-in"?
Any advice would be appreciated.
