    Real Factory mounted side pipes...1967

What telltale signs are there for aftermarket side pipes on a SM 1967?
    Thanks again!

When they say Thrush or they have four pipes going into one big one.

If you mean when sidepipes are not factory original to the car, look for evidence of mounting hardware on the frame. Even if the mounts are gone, holes will show signs of being threaded, marks on the frame where clamps rested, and so on.

      I'm embarrased

I'll admit, I once bought a Vette with Thrush side pipes and had to take them off to get it registered in CT. I now actually can thank the DMV for that rule.

        Re: I'm embarrased

Don't feel too bad. A friend's first Corvette was mustard yellow with Thrush sidepipes. It had yellow shag carpeting and the rear fenders were radiused like when you flare them, but no one put the flares on.

I never remember the top being down on it. I think it was so dry that he had cracked it and was afraid to put it down again. Headlights were always opened, as the right one had a broken gear or motor. Standard 283 engine, if I remember correctly.

He drove the wheels off that car. As he tells the story, it was harpooned one night on I-270 around St. Louis. One of those highway poles with the reflectors apparently was in a lane and thrown up by a truck, harpooning the yellow beast to the side of the radiator.

The restoration fever came along, and in fifteen minutes of watering hole oneupsmanship, a dozen in the club decided to be the first to have their Corvette restored, so the next day, every one of them began taking Corvettes apart. About 7 years later, it was all done, dressed out in its correct 365 hp engine, white paint, new black interior, and looking worth all the points it could gather. And years later, it still had about 15 miles on it, being never driven except in and out of a trailer.

Maybe those Thrush sidepipes weren't so bad.

Were you looking at this car? I saw you were in Glen Ellyn and since this one was in the Chicago area, thought you might have been referring to this one.

'66 with sidepipes that looks like a '67

              Nope....

That car has not crossed the radar until now...not original enough for my liking...probably make somebody happy though!

I found a old straight A.O. Smith base 67 w/ sidepipes and just couldnt see anybody ordering a base car with pipes.

Still lookin for something original and sound.

              Thanks
