1972 BB, Smog Adjusting Brace (Joe Lucia)

I appreciate the information that you passed on to me serveral months ago about the smog pump adjusting brace on my 72 454. I am still looking for one, but figured that if I had too I could make a brace. You said very specifically that the developed length was 10 1/4 inches. I got to thinking how is it you know this? Do you have a drawing or a part that you measured? If you do then I would like some more information from you, if possible. The thickness of the brace. The total off-set of both bends. The distance of each mounting hole to it's respective bend. The length of the slot. Etc. A couple of pictures with a scale next to the part

Any information at all would be a great help, I am wanting to get my car going, and this part is the "long pole in the tent"... I am a Mech. Engr (please don't frown too much) who has spent many years in the metal working industry, so with a little information possibly from you, and my car as a reference, maybe I can get there from here...

Lou, save yourself a big headache and call Bill Hodel at 330-832-0871, I've been in the steel fabrication business for 30 years and I still got mine and the complete correct smog system from him for my '74 BB at a reasonable price, don't torture yourself for a small part like that, Bill will have it in your hand in 3 days.

I have actually tried getting a hold of Bill with little luck. The mans never there... I will be persistent and get in touch with him

I got the information from a known-original part. It would be very difficult for me to spec it out for you to the degree that you'd need to fabricate one. Not that it's a real complicated piece, but it just is not practical to adequately describe such a part. I may be able to take some photos of it and post them, though.

However, I agree with Cary; I think you're best bet is trying to find one. Dr. Rebuild carries this piece in his catalog under his number 3655144 for $46.50.

Yeh I saw the Dr. Rebuild part but they have discontinued it..... Oh well. Pictures would be great, please try to have a scale in the photo for my reference.
