Anyone have any idea what this is from? Has the 0- engineering casting/part number and cast in January of 1967. Spent the last three plus decades sitting on a shelf in Yunick's garage.

Re: Mystery Water Pump
It may be the picture, but I thought it was so wide, it was like the W motor pump, but a 1967 date removes that idea.
With the inlet angled up, it suggests the engine sits below the radiator. White had small tractors with 327s around that period of time and the 327 sat low in the frame while the radiator was much higher. They were single rear axle cab-overs for city and light load use.
Amazing to think a 327 could pull 30,000 lbs or so.
Maybe?- Top

With enough gears you can pull a locomotive with a sewing machine engine. No one said how fast though. I saw a couple of those Whites you were talking about. When loaded they were literally a rolling road blockDick Whittington- Top

Re: Mystery Water Pump
A truck company I worked at when in high school had a couple. One we used as a spotter truck around the yard, and I drove it often. Real good in that situation, huge back window, short frame, and even the full loaded trailers of steel (around 50,000 lb load) were no problem.
On the road, they were probably not the best, although I went with a guy to pick one up north of Springfield, IL and we buzzed down Route 66 around 75 or so deadhead. He was pretty beat by the time we got back with it. I was glad I was driving the pickup.- Top

Mystery Water Pump
Ok, thanks guys. We'll probably never know the whole story on this pump. It is a small block unit and it sat in Smokey's race car fab shop for years so I have to assume it wasn't for his 327 powered lawn mower. I once thought it could be headed for the 67-69 Camaro Trans-Am project but the date is probably a little early to fit into that program. Maybe for that 208 C.I. small block Indy car?- Top

Re: Mystery Water Pump
Anything is possible Mike, but he strictly kept the GMC part separate from the race shop. Also, the engineering 0- part/cast number would suggest that it was experimental. Anything is possible though. Much of the inventory that was in that building may never be identified.- Top
