one of the founding fathers of the Mid Atlantic chapter passed away last week. Les co-owned the oldest corvette know to exist, 53 # 003 along with Howard Kirsch(also deceased) and John Amgwert. I believe Les was one of the first ncrs members to attain the Judging Black Hat. He was a pisser. his wife Rose survives. mike

Re: RIP Les Bieri
Les was a real character, and a great guy. I called him one day out of the blue when I lived in Virginia, he didn't know me from Adam. I told him I was doing research on 73 aluminum wheels and wondered if I could set up an appointment to see Zora's 74 coupe, which had 73 aluminum wheels on it.
He said come on over, and spent the entire afternoon showing me his Corvette collection, and Zora's 74. He even agreed to take two of the wheels off for me so I could get pictures of the back side of those rare 73 wheels. I got a great article for The Restorer out of it.
Safe journey Les.- Top

Re: RIP Les Bieri
I am sorry to hear about Les. I had the opportunity to judge a 55 at the Regional in Joplin with both Les and Howard Kirsch. 003 was a display car at the regional. Les, Howard, and John invited me to crawl inside 003 and look underneath the dash to see the wiring configuration. I think that 55 had the longest and most complete judging ever. It took about 6 hours. We would look at something on the 55 and then look at 003 to confirm it appeared to be original. I learned so much that weekend about the early cars 53-55. There was only three judges willing to judge the older cars at that event, So the three of us judged Chassis 1 & 2, interior and exterior. It was a long day.
The sport will miss both of them.
