    battery connection

Hi All - been doing searches with no satisfactory result. I have a '65 coupe, small block, no A/C that has been apart and is now assembled and close to starting. My questions are: is this is a negative ground system and where do the positive and negative battery cables connect to on the starter motor? TIA.

65 vettes are neg ground. bolt the neg cable to one of the bolts that fastens the starter moror to the block. the positive battery cable goes on the large post on the solenoid of the starter. mike

      Re: battery connection

      Mike,
In addition to what Mike said, there is a black ground wire that has a large ring terminal crimped on it. This black wire is attached to the same bolt as the negative battery cable.

Don't let me confuse you here, Mike. There is also a 10 gauge red wire that has a small black wire crimped onto another large ring terminal. This pair of wires goes onto the starter solenoid with the positive battery cable.

Before making these connections, I highly recommend that you check out the December 2004 issue of Corvette Enthusiast magazine. There is an article by Ed Jennings that shows a simple addition/modification that you can/should make to help prevent your baby from "going up in smoke".

      Good luck with your '65.

      Regards,
      Gene
