Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the thinnest portion of my '66 antenna to retract? The antenna works fine except for that last little ornery bit. I can rotate the mast, it just won't retract. I'm hesitant to force it because I'd rather it partially work than break it completely.

I'd run it up, clean it well with something like WD40 or similar to cut any gunk off of it, then coat it lightly with something like 3-in-1 oil or spray silicon lubricant, and try again.
Now I've never had a power antenna, but it has worked on regular retracting ones. I don't know if that would mess up the retracting mechanism or not. -

The drive cable is rusted to the last section. The solid piece will rotate because it is only swaged to the cable and can rotate independant of the cable. It's very common. You're only prayer is to remove the mast and soak it in WD 40. Muriatic acid and water will definitely free it up but it will also remove the chrome. I can replace the mast, clean it up and redip it for $300 if your interested.Comment

Greg, thank you. I'm very interested. Looks like I'll have the car at Waco next week with the antenna not operating properly. I'll have this car in San Antonio this summer and I'll have time to send it off for a proper rebuild.Comment
