    Sportsman class

I am just wondering would this car be O.K. to display in a sportsman class.

Or am I stretching what the definition is of the sportsman class actually is?

As copied from the awards description page

"2. Member must own and drive a 1953 through current production Corvette and park in the designated "Sportsman" parking area...or... Member must own and drive a "Stock appearing" 1953-1982 Corvette and be willing to leave their car on the judging field with the judged cars during the event as space permits. "Stock appearing" is defined as no body, bumper or driving light modifications."

I sincerley built this car to be stock appearing with the exception of the wheels and paint to the average person

they haven't run ole Farm Use off from the nats at Galveston or windsor or bowling green or various other regionals and it's definitly an atypical 61 vette with the 92 ZR1 drivetrain underneath. good luck with your sportsman. mike

The only picture I managed to find was it without paint. However, that could be cool to have as many have never seen a Corvette bare where you can see all the seams.

My feeling is that you should give it a try, and see if you get in or not. If you get in, then it means you did a good job looking "stock".

                Mike,

Click on his first post at the top, then wait forever. It's taking a LONG time to load the picture, even on high speed cable here at work.

                      Larry,
I like original cars but your resto is outstanding and I'm sure it's a blast to drive.

John Best of luck and I will be thinking of you. I know your car is going to knock some people off of there feet.

You know originally when I was building the car I had thought the "purist" or the "factory correct folks" were going to critasize me for the libirties I took when building this car. But much to my suprize it has been warmly welcomed by just about ever one with the exception of one fellow who at carlilse explained what I did was "sacreligous" I am going to take this to the next meet I can to display in the sportsman class. I plan on attending the orlando meet but its way too long for me to drive and the shipping prices are quite high right now.

                            Re: Sportsman class

There will always be those who criticise you for what you did. That goes with the territory. But what you have to remember is do you do this stuff for yourself or others?

                            Then you act accordingly.

I took this one below to a Winter Regional. Almost every person was a Corvette "expert", and explained how I had butchered the car, destroyed the car, had committed Corvette sin, and was a total idiot for having a car like this. The car was complete junk, worthless, not worth the gasoline to burn it, an insult to the fine NCRS Regional for being there, and so on. I doubt there are any insulting comments that can be made that I didn't hear that weekend. Many were NCRS by their registration tag.

I can count on one hand the nice people. Michael Hanson stopped by and talked decently. A guy with his kids did the same, asking if he could take a picture of them next to it. I put them in it instead. And Ken Edmunds who was next to me in a space.

In the '50s and '60s, the guys at Corvette built a car as well as they were allowed. They knew it wasn't perfect. They knew it wasn't ideal. But they built a platform knowing that customers could build on that very sound platform what they needed. Chevrolet supplied the building block for us to turn in the perfect car for ourselves.

Somewhere along, people seem to think they were building the perfect car. And along with that, the critism if you change it. They lost sight of the fact that racing was the heritage Corvette would have that saved it several times. And customizing made it YOUR car, not one like every other person going down the street.

Enjoy your car the way you want to. If others don't like it, find a different group of others.

                            sacrilegious? - Never!

Man, is that yellow!!! Obviously, I can see the picture now.

I think it fits the rules.

"Stock appearing" is defined as no body, bumper or driving light modifications."

I love this rule. The '67 L88 tanker discussed in another thread wouldn't fit. The front bumper was missing. It also eliminates a lot of '74-'79s that put on the '80-'82 style rear bumper.

Heck, I think it eliminates Roy's copper '55, since his hardtop is a body modification. Well, that ought to really upset Roy, he gets through judging with it but can't do the Sportsman class.
