    E-bay L88 tanker; block IDs

    Thomas,

It's my understanding that blocking the ID of all bidders is an option of the seller. The seller can't block the ID of just one or a few bidders, he/she must block all or none. If the seller wants to give anonymity to bidders, this is how to do it. I've never done it with my e-bay auctions, but clearly some sellers like to do it.

          Tommy

I'm not a 67 L-88 expert. I've only seen one up close. However, this car does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling because of the lack of history. For the sake of someone spending $750k I hope I'm wrong. I will assume (everyone knows what assume means) that the bid winner will get an expert to a to authenticate this car to ensure it's note a clone.

My take on this is, seller runs a private auction with a very high reserve, runs the auction up to 1.?? million, it dosen't meet reserve now he can say an E-bay auction priced it at Yada Yada Yada. Ridiculous

                Re: EBAY L88 TANKER

I heard about this sort of thing all the time in other groups. People always pointing at eBay that a 19xx Corvette went to $xxx, xxx and they have one just like it. But they neglect to say it never hit reserve.

The only auctions you can use to assess value are those that end in a sale. Everything else is smoke.

And on eBay, ending in a sale is rather meaningless, as often the same car is listed again in two weeks or so. You have to take the price of when it shows for the LAST time, and usually have to wait a few months to be sure it is the last time.

I've seen a few the same way at Mecum. Insane reserve, bid goes insane BUT does not meet reserve. Then the next month all the magazines report that the car must be worth $xxx, xxx because the bidding went that high.
