    Paint info

Does anyone have a polo white / sportsman red corvette that the paint has been found to match good to the original ? I am ready to paint a 54 for a guy but have no good sample to tint to. I believe I can match the red to the steering column, but the white I want to be as right as possible.

I can't help with your paint problem, but I did notice at Carslile in 2003 when they had the 50 - 53 Corvettes all of the cars that had been repainted looked to have a different shade of white. I thought the color difference was quite noticable.

Check the archives for the correct name for paint sources. I think its color library or autolibrary. I just bought some Ditzler lacquer paint from them. They color match their mixing against a standard they have developed (my words). They also send a small sample of the paint dried on a card with the shipment. Its expensive but worth it in my opinion.

        Steve,
my 57 is polo white and awhile back I went to my local automotive paint store and they mixed some touch up paint in a bottle for me, because I still had the formula on a can I had saved i think it was ditzler

the 53 thru 55 corvette Polo white was not appliance white, rather it was tinted such that its a little on the cream-colored side. don't paint it appliance white, judges pick up on it right away. good luck, mike

I too have noticed the difference in Polo White cars especially 53's and 54's.

I thought the color on 53 #003 was very dark..maybe too yellow..and I was a little surprised seeing Nolands 53 was a little on the cream color side of the spectrum. Nolands is not as dark as #003 and probably closer to correct.

See below..although computer translation will not be exact.

I have a 54 that appears to have the original paint..maybe I could find a chip to send you...that could be scanned. The color is close to Nolands but maybe a slight bit less cream.

I think when you walk up to a polo white car and it seems too white or too yellow.. you will know it is not right..

I wonder if anyone out there has an old paint chip cart!

                            The creamy color of #003

Looks even darker or more yellow in person..at least to my eye.

                            A million dollar plus... color!
